Geometry Sets Explained…
Published by Rosie on October 10th, 2012 in Geometry Supplies
A geometry set consists of a range of mathematical instruments which are used by children globally and have been for generations for a range of needs in mathematics and geometry lessons. Here at Office 365, we have a great selection of geometry supplies which include the following items:
180° Protractor – A priceless tool in every geometry set and probably the most commonly used, the protractor is a semicircular plastic tool which accurately measures degrees, declaring acute or obtuse with confidence. Completely unchangeable, we can rely on the protractor to give accurate results every time!
Compass – A compass or pair of compasses is a technical drawing instrument which can be found inside geometry sets and is used in schools for inscribing circles or arcs, in mathematics and geometry. Outside of school they are often used as a tool to measure distances on maps but are also used in mathematics, drafting, navigation, and various other purposes.
15cm Ruler – A ruler is an instrument used in geometry, technical drawing, printing, engineering/building and general day to day life, to measure distances and to rule straight lines and edges. Smaller children even use a ruler as a counting tool!
Triangle/Set Square – A set square is an object which is used in engineering, mathematics and technical drawing, and provides a straightedge at a right angle or various other planar angles to a baseline. It is quite simply a triangular piece of transparent plastic with the centre removed and features bevelled edges
Pencil Sharpener – Included in every geometry set is a pencil sharpener which is used to shave away the layers from a pencil as the lead within runs low. Sharpening the pencil will expose new lead so that the user can have a sharper point to work with.
Eraser – Without an eraser we’d face serious difficulties; a pencil eraser will remove any markings you feel are incorrect, not accurate or simply no longer required; very useful for mathematics and geometry!
Alternatively, you can always purchase these items individually so that you can create the optimum set. Often ‘put together’ geometry sets will feature a short ruler, a short pencil and an eraser which leaves a lot to be desired. By creating your own set you can or enjoy the benefits of all the best. For example, you could choose a mechanical pencil and spare leads, a nice white crumbly eraser, a metal sharpener for years of reliable use, a well put together and decent compass, a Rotring one for example. You could choose a full length ruler, a biodegradable protractor and set square. The possibilities are endless, and they’re yours.
