A worrying example emerged when a 37-year-old man critically ill in hospital in Glasgow was confirmed as having swine flu, and five members of his family are being viewed as possible cases. The man, who has not been named, was admitted to intensive and has a serious underlying illness. The worrying fact is that he is not known to have had contact with any swine flu cases or travelled recently.

The majority of cases continue to be mild, although 840 people have been hospitalised and 26 people have died.

Swine flu, like seasonal flu, is easily spread by the tiny droplets in a cough or sneeze. By taking a few simple steps you can help to reduce the risk of getting swine flu and to stop the virus spreading.
