Do You Have a Favourite Pen?

I can’t stand working with those horrible prickly pens, they really make me shudder, we all know the ones I’m talking about. For me it has to be ball point and it has to be smmooottthhh….

It’s something we all need from time to time and for completely different levels of importance too. It could be for ticking boxes or even approving a mortgage application! Pens are an obvious essential and a good one will pass the day a lot faster. I’ve had a few favourites over the years, the ones that make your writing oh so beautiful, and really are a pleasure to write with. I’ve made tippex mark’s at the top so that I can write my name on them, stuck stickers on them, but they’ve always left me in the end (normally ending up with someone else across the office who chews them!!). A Helping Hand

I don’t know about you, but I found all these envelope sizes very confusing and when it came to the postal rates, well when they changed, I didn’t have a clue. So we’ve researched a little recently and it all seems to make sense now. Once you know the few guidelines to follow it’s really not so bad, let me explain:

Different Envelope Sizes

This is a C4 size envelope. It is one of the most common and can hold a full sheet of A4 without having to fold it. The dimensions are 324mm x 229mm (12¾” x 9″)

This is a C5 size envelope. It can hold an A4 sheet of paper folded in half once, or an A5 sheet unfolded. The dimensions are 229mm x 162mm (9″x 6⅜”)

This is a C6 size envelope. It can hold an A4 sheet of paper folded twice, an A5 sheet folded once, or A6 size paper unfolded. The dimensions are 114mm x 162mm (4½” x 6⅜”)

This is a DL size envelope. It is most commonly used with businesses. It can hold an A4 sheet of paper, folded twice, or an A5 sheet folded once. The dimensions are 110mm x 220mm (4⅓” x 8⅔“)

From August 21 2006 an item of post must be all of these things to be classed as a small letter:
- The width (longest side) must be less than 24.0cm
- The height (shortest side) must be less than 16.5cm
- The thickness must be less than 0.5cm
- The weight must be less than 100g

Note: Unfolded A4 paper (29.7cm wide, 21.0 cm high) is too large to be sent as a small letter.
However, if this paper is folded in half it becomes A5 size (21.0cm wide, 14.8cm high) and can be sent as a letter

From August 21 2006 an item of post must be all of these things to be classed as a large letter:
- The width (longest side) must be less than 35.3cm
- The height (shortest side) must be less than 25.0cm
- The thickness must be less than 2.5cm
- The weight must be less than 750g Note: A3 paper (42.0cm wide, 29.7cm high) is too large to be sent as a large letter.
However, if this paper is folded in half it becomes A4 size (29.7cm wide, 21.0 cm high) and can be sent as a large letter
